Tutor: The next thing that you have to check is the punctuation in your paper.
Student: Oh, you mean all the commas and periods and semicolons?
Tutor: Yes, exactly.

Student: Does the punctuation really matter all that much?
Tutor: Well yes, it does. When the punctuation is correct, your writing is easier to understand. Also, incorrect punctuation can change the meaning of a sentence.
Student: Oh, really?
Tutor: Yes. There is a very simple example that people use as a joke:
“Let’s eat, Harry.” is not the same as “Let’s eat Harry.”
Student: That’s funny!
Tutor: Yes, that’s a funny example, but in other cases, the wrong punctuation can lead to confusion.
