Excelsior Students Report Widespread Usage and Satisfaction with the Excelsior OWL

 

In January, Excelsior University ran a student survey to a random selection of enrolled undergraduate students in order to discover what students thought about the Excelsior Online Writing Lab. Overall, the results were very positive, with students reporting widespread awareness of and satisfaction with the OWL.

 

Below are some highlights from the report.

58.46% Had used the OWL before 85.1% Overall experience with the OWL was good, very good, or excellent 52.2% Used the OWL at least once per week 68.66% Strongly agreed, agreed, or somewhat agreed that the OWL helped them improve their course grades 72.06% Strongly agreed, agreed, or somewhat agreed that the OWL helped them increase their ability to write 80.6% Strongly agreed, agreed, or somewhat agreed that they could transfer what they learned from the OWL to other courses 61.2% Moderately or extremely likely to recommend the OWL to a friend

The top five most commonly used OWL resources, in order, were the sections on Citation and Documentation, The Writing Process, Research, Avoiding Plagiarism, and Grammar Essentials.
